Built originally in 1938, Arts and Science Hall is the oldest building on the campus of the University of Nebraska Omaha.
In the summer of 2019, the building went under extensive construction that was intended to update the building and give it a more modern touch. In total, the amount of all the extensive work done cost around $12 million.
Some of the changes that students and faculty might notice include brighter lighting in the hallways, improved air conditioning, new data cables and renovated restrooms and classrooms. In total, around 11 classrooms were renovated in Arts and Science Hall, with new television screens and seating being added to each. With the exception of a few technical hiccups, all classrooms were up and functional by the start of 2019 Fall semester.
Despite the changes from this summer, more work is still expected to be done next summer. Plans for next year include renovating an additional 20 classrooms, along with the women’s restrooms on the west side of the building. All final renovations are expected to be finished by the start of the 2020 Fall Semester.
