U-N-O’s MavRadio participated in the 2019 World College Radio Day Friday, Oct. 4th. This marks the ninth annual celebration, which includes more than 500 stations worldwide in 28 countries. The MavRadio team decided to do a 24-hour marathon on air, where a handful of members contributed different elements to help fill the time, with the help of some guests.
KVNO general manager, Dr. Chris Allen, discusses the importance of college radio it’s future.
“Radio will evolve… radio has always evolved. I don’t think there has been a medium that has shown as much resilience and as much ability to adapt to current situations as radio. It will continue to bring information, relaxation, excitement, joy and emotion into our lives. And the students who are learning radio now are the people who will be stewards of that message down the road.”
Mavradio team member Chance Oliver shares why Mavradio has impacted him.
“Mavradio has given me the opportunity to expand my podcast with my good friend. It has also allowed me to meet new people, and it’s allowed me to have fun in college. Because college can’t be all about studying and keeping your nose to the grindstone. Sometimes you have to enjoy yourself. That’s why I’m supporting College Radio Day, because radio has allowed me to get out of my shell.”
In addition, Mavradio was one of seven college stations in the country last year that was given an award for 2018 Spirit of College Radio.
