The Great Mind Lecture Series at Kaneko Galleries will feature Jun Kaneko’s production of Madama Butterfly at 7 p.m.
Madama Butterfly: The Suicide that Stays News will have a small performance with a lecture discussing on the social implications of the artwork from the opera by a panel led by Dr. Bette Talvacchia, Emerita Professor of Art History and Jenny Rroji, Art Director and Pianist.
Kaneko Education and Public Program Coordinator Katherine Scapello said the goal of the Great Minds Lecture is to bring in a “great mind” that has pushed the boundaries and created milestones in their career field by coming in Kaneko and lecturing about it.
“Kaneko itself is all about creativity and the creative process,” said Scarpello. “The Great Minds Lecture Series is a way for us to highlight people that are using their creativity in something other than art.”
Scarpello said the past lectures have featured neuroscientists, the CEO of Google and many influential thinkers.
“What I’m hoping that people take away from the lecture series and all of our programs is how can take what this creative thinker is doing and get inspired to spark their creativity,” Scarpello said. “It can be a really great mathematician or planning a strategy in politics, or just using creativity in any way you see fit.
