The Iowa Caucus left Iowans feeling discouraged by the amount of time and money spent. According to Iowa resident Danielle Gochenour, this year’s caucus was disorganized and time consuming.
Gochenour said, “It was my first caucus so it was an experience, and it wasn’t a great experience with how boring and unorganized it was.”
The frustrations from Iowa residents were elevated by delayed results because of the failure of an app to deliver the results. Gochenour spent two hours at the caucus on Tuesday and hopes things will run smoother in the future, because she says not every voter has that kind of time.
Candidates spent an upwards of $60 million for the Iowa Caucus alone. For an election, that some say, the outcome is contested and the final results unimportant.
Gochenour said, “I think that money could go to bigger and better things. Especially this early on when there’s still so many candidates.”
The Iowa Caucus has been the kick-off to the primary election season since the 1960’s, but with these delayed results, their position as first in the country may have be in jeopardy. Many people think it’s time to move on from the caucuses and switch to primaries.
Caucus volunteer Payton Armstrong said, “I don’t think Iowa deserves all the power. Like other states are just as important.”
Seeing how much trouble Iowa went through with the app, Nevada doesn’t plan on using it for their caucuses on Feb. 22.
