OMAHA – In a time where concerts, museums and live shows all have social distant protocols to follow, some would think local artists would be struggling to get their work shown. However, Simon Clark isn’t going to let that happen.
“Broccoli Omaha is a free platform we created that was designed to connect, promote and grow a community here of artists in Omaha,” said Simon Clark, founder of Broccoli Omaha and Simon Clark Productions.
Simon grew up in the creative scene here in Omaha. He was in a band, helped his parents with advertising and through all his experience saw a need to help recognize local artists. “I grew up seeing these great artists put everything they have into their work and a lot of times it just doesn’t get the attraction it deserves,” said Clark.
The local artists aren’t the only ones noticing Broccoli’s effect on the creative scene here in Omaha.
“I love seeing us come together because sometimes I feel like the Omaha creative scene and the local arts can be under shadowed or people don’t know about them, or it’s hard to get your name out there. So, I love the mission of Broccoli in the sense of bringing artists together, connecting as one and just building that sense of community and support,” said Kylie Squiers a staff member of Broccoli Omaha.
Broccoli Omaha is designed for artists to submit a form detailing who they are, what their art is and how they got into the industry. They also submit examples of their art form. Artists can submit any form of art they want, and this is entirely for free. Once submitted Broccoli will then help these artists put together a media package to display across social media.
Simon describes the package they put together for the artists, “A feature story about them and we try to put out a few a week and we share that through all of our followers and all of our community and the goal is to just push this content out to a wider audience that that artist may not have had otherwise”.
With the attraction Broccoli has been getting from local artists, it is no doubt that this will continue to grow. Copy writer for Broccoli Omaha, Makayla R., explains why she believes Broccoli will continue to rise in the future. She said, “Omaha is still growing in the creative scene. I really think we’ve planted this seed that has not happened yet. I have no doubt that it will continue to flourish and connect those artists that haven’t been able to find a landing place.”
