Raising Money for Hospitals by Gaming

OMAHA – The Extra Life Foundation raises money for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, including one in Omaha, throughout the year, with a focus on Game Day.

On Game Day, participants fundraise by playing games for 24 hours straight. It’s not just video games, either, participants also stream board games or table top role-playing games.

Like many events this year, Game Day took place entirely online, but they were still able to break fundraising records.

This year’s Game Day took place on November 7, and the organization raised a combined $12 million.

Not every organization does their main fundraising event on Game Day. Others choose their own days or host multiple events.

Rooster Teeth, for instance, typically holds a 24-hour event where cast and crew members host a show and play games. This year, they’re spreading it out over the course of the week. Last year, starting on Nov. 16, Extra Life Omaha raised over $6,000 for the Children’s Hospital.
