Omaha opens its first “selfie” museum

Located in Benson, The Selfie Spot is Omaha’s first and only “selfie museum.” At the museum, guests can “immerse themselves in an interactive space with rotating sets to level up their ‘selfie’ and social media feeds,” according to the website.

“I thought that Omaha would be a great place to have one of those attractions where other people from larger cities come to our city for events, and it would be nice to see some familiar entertainment options,” said Aja Anderson, owner of The Selfie Spot.

Opening a new business during a pandemic can be risky, especially when it is your first – which is the case for Anderson.

“I just kept reminding myself and telling myself that the pandemic won’t be here forever, so if I have to stick it out for a year or so – but hopefully just a couple of months – that things would surely turn the tide later on,” she said.

With every business comes certain challenges or difficulties, but there can be some incredible rewards as well.

“I mean it feels like the people enjoy the space,” said creative director Ashley Knox. “I have seen a lot of different people come in and take wonderful pictures and get really creative with some of the different sets so that’s really cool to see.”
