Fridays during Lent: a time for many Christians around the world preparing for the celebration of Easter and a time for mouth-watering fish fries. There are 1.3 billion Catholics and 2.3 billion Christians who participate in the season of Lent.
Last year, churches had to cancel their fish fries as the COVID-19 pandemic began. This year, things are moving in the right direction. Christ the King Catholic Church in Omaha, for example, conducted a drive-thru fish fry.
The Knights of Columbus sponsored the event and member Mark Anderson said it brought people together.
“We have a lot of kids helping, a lot of guys helping and we’ve never done this before,” said Anderson, “It’s a new experience for everybody but it went pretty smooth, and we didn’t run out of food since that’s our biggest fear.”
Beth Winbinger, who came through the drive-thru, said she didn’t mind waiting for a fresh fish dinner.
“I’m not from Christ the King. I actually go to Mary Our Queen. But this is on my way home, so the drive-thru was really easy to find and it really is not a long wait,” she said.
Christ the King has two more fish fries this Lent. Additional Fish Fry locations in Nebraska can be found at spiritcatholicradio.com/fish/.
