This time of year, people are used to seeing girls in brown and green uniforms standing outside local grocery stores selling the oh-so-noticeable Girl Scout cookies.
This year has been different since many Girl Scouts in the area have decided not to sell at all, and many troops also opted out of selling in front of the stores.
This has left many having to reach out online to find and order these cookies.
“They are reaching out everywhere social media, text, work and so on,” said Girl Scout mom Rana Hadid.
She also mentioned that it has been easier to sell this year “since they have less access to a Girl Scout, they end up reaching out to us and ordering.”
Hadid said she and her daughter weren’t going to sell this year, but her daughter Aya wanted to since she hadn’t been able to do anything with Girl Scouts since last year.
Aya mentioned that she wanted to sell since she has seen her sister selling in the past.
Aya said she noticed one difference between selling cookies now versus in the past.
“We have to wear a mask when selling now,” she said.
“Even though it might not be as much fun as last year, I’m grateful she can still do something and still has the privilege of selling the cookies” Rana said. “It’s a great learning opportunity since they see how the environment changes and safety changes, and they learn from it.”
