After a year away from the stage and an online ceremony, Baxter Arena will once again hold a graduation ceremony in May. A lot of thought went into this decision but they are willing to go through an extensive list of protocols to do it, according to a university-wide email from UNO events.
“Masks with be enforced and students will be limited to the number of family members that they will be able to bring around the number four,” said UNO student body president Jabin Moore.
The Douglas County Health Department, which Jabin worked closely with, said the health and safety of all graduates and guests is the number one priority and students do not have to come if they are still worried about the circumstances.
“People who are showing their excitement and support of having it in person so I think it will be kind of consistent with the amount of graduates that we have,” he said. “It seems like the people that are graduating are interested in walking.”
Despite all the protocols that have been laid out and this graduation still not being quite normal, senior Taylor Shipley, says she agrees with the decision to go ahead and do graduation in person.
“As long as the process is safe and regulations will be in place, I think it should be fine,” said Taylor Shipley, an Omaha student graduating in May.
