Horsemen’s Park Horse Track, located at 6303 Q St. in Omaha, will soon be getting a $200 million renovation. This renovation will come with a new name: Warhorse Casino.
Votes passed Initiative 430 in November, authorizing gambling in racetracks, and giving the park the green light to move ahead with plans for the future.
“[We want] first-class entertainment venues that our state can be proud of,” said Bob Moser, president of Omaha Exposition and Racing.
Moser said he hopes to get some form of temporary operations this summer, given that the current building can be remodeled, and begin gaming by early next year.
The new building will include a new parking garage, restaurants and a gaming floor with approximately 1,200 slot machines.
Ronald Miller has been a regular at Horseman’s park since the doors opened in 1998.
“It will be something different,” Miller said.
He said he was happy they will still have the racetrack.
“I’m 72 years old,” Miller said. “I don’t know if I’m going to be here long enough for this casino.”
