OMAHA, Neb. – UNO’s annual Drag Show returned with a BANG! The event took place on April 8, 6-8 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center. The shows theme was “Sashay to Earth Day” in honor of the upcoming day.
Maggie Ramos, co-director of UNO Queer and Trans Services (QTS) said, drag shows and the Queens are so much fun.
“Just be who you are… have fun and be free; dance and listen to good music,” she said.
The audience cheered and were encouraged to donate if they could, since proceeds go to local non-profit, Earth Day Omaha. QTS had partnered with Sustain UNO, another student organization, to get “Trash Talk” training.
“Our board liked the training so much and we had such a big response to it,” Ramos said. “We are all compost certified and able to help identify where an item goes in which receptacle.”
Performers included UNO alumni, local artists and Miss Max for the past two years, Dren Kennedy. She said her favorite part besides the audience was time spent backstage with other performers.
“That was super fun,” Kennedy said.
11 performers showed off some of their best moves including cartwheels in heels, splits, forward tumbles, struts and frolic down the runway, all the while lip-syncing to various pieces of music.
Between some of the acts, five people in the audience won gift bags, and two people won tickets to see Trixie and Katya live in August.
“Support your local Drag,” Kennedy said.
