OMAHA, Neb- Mountain Biking has seen a strong rise in popularity around the Omaha area. For locals around Omaha, they find these trails to be great training courses for beginner bikers.
“I think the best part of the mountain biking trails in Omaha, is that there’s always a trail for someone. Anything from small jumps and switchbacks for beginners, all the way to big jumps and drop-offs for more experienced riders.” Said Parker Lindsay, an avid mountain biking enthusiast who has traveled across the country to ride the best trails.
T.H.O.R. which stands for Trails Have Our Respect, is a local organization that have been building and maintaining the mountain biking and hiking trails around Western Nebraska and Eastern Iowa for over 25 years.
“The trails around Omaha are a great place to train before you mountain bike in somewhere like Colorado. I still find some of the trails here to be a bit challenging.” Said Mason Marik, a mountain biker who frequently visits Colorado to test his skills.
According to the Trail Forks online map, T.H.O.R. has built and maintained over 10 different park trails around the Omaha and Eastern Iowa area.
The Tranquility Park trail has been a favorite amongst mountain bike enthusiasts here in Omaha. As T.H.O.R. volunteers come out nearly everyday to make sure the trails are in good condition.
T.H.O.R. have also been consistently adding new additions to their trails almost every year, such as new jumps, drop-offs, and even longer trails.
Many schools and other organizations have formed mountain biking teams to encourage others to explore these trails.
