OMAHA, Neb. – Hundreds of people lined up outside Crescent Moon Ale House and Huber Haus German Beer Hall for its 21st annual Oktoberfest celebration. There was lots of dancing, singing, and drinking. But most importantly, there was friends and family.
Attendees and good friends Aden Boyle and Aiden Swanson do their best to go together each year.
“I’ve known [Aiden Swanson] since grade school, we just love coming here,” said Boyle.
Compared to other states Nebraska has the fourth highest percentage of German Ancestry. About 36% of Nebraskans are of German descent. Therefore, many Omaha residents are no stranger to the Oktoberfest tradition.
Oktoberfest attendee Matt Ryan said he loves to go every year to celebrate his German roots.
“I usually go this one in Omaha cause it’s the best, but I do go to fests in Southern Minnesota,” said Ryan, “you should be proud of your heritage, support it, and just love it. Embrace it.”
Beer mugs are an important part of celebrating. At the Crescent Moon and Huber Haus Oktoberfest, people were encouraged to bring their own to drink from.
Purchasing beer refills at the event was cheaper if you had a glass. If you did not own a mug, vendors sold them for customer’s convenience all night long. The best part about it? The ability to bring the German tradition home.
It’s not too late to attend Oktoberfest. The Fremont Golf Club will be celebrating Oktoberfest on Wednesday, October 26th at 6 p.m.
