OMAHA Neb. – Veteran’s Day was last Friday, November 11th. There were many events happening on and around campus to honor those who have served.
UNO’s military connected resource center honored those who served this past Thursday and Friday with an event they had never done before.
Assistant Director of the military connected resource center and veteran, Amber Evenson, said she hopes it draws people into the office.
“We have the art exhibit on display. It is actually a traveling art exhibit done by local women veterans. So, all the pieces in here on display are from local women who are veterans and have served at different points in time.”
UNO has Veteran’s Day events going on throughout the entire month of November including a podcast panel, a health screening, 10% off in the bookstore, a history lesson and a display in the library.
In 2020 UNO had 1,738 military connected students enrolled. A 5.5 percent increase in military connected student from 2019.
Work Study Employee and Veteran Mickaelle Rockette said growing up in a military family and being a veteran, herself has showed her what veterans’ day really means.
“Veteran’s Day is a time to be thankful and grateful for family for loved ones for the people we’ve served with. It’s a chance to honor those who have served before us, the people who we served with and the ones who will go after us.”
Even though Veteran’s Day has passed it’s never too late to thank a veteran in your life and honor the sacrifice they made for your freedom.
The Veteran Library Display will be going on the entire month of November in the Criss Library. To find out about other events happening within the Military Connected Resource Center visit their office in the Milo Bail Student Center.
