OMAHA, Neb. – Hamas fighters and military attacked Israel and as a response Israel has retaliated in a militant way. According to Al Jazeera, there are over 4,600 casualties in Gaza and over 1,400 casualties in Israel. As a result, protesters gathered on 72nd and Dodge to support Palestine.
The pro-Palestine protesters held up signs, chanted and waved Palestinian flags at one of the busiest intersections in Omaha. The protesting was met with a cacophony honking horns, supportive waves and obscene gestures. The protest was held for two hours during rush hour on Friday.

While there are more protests going on around the world and in Nebraska, Nebraskans for Peace were only responsible for setting up these particular protests. According to YouGov 48 percent of U.S. adults sympathize with Israel as compared to only ten percent of the same demographic sympathizing with Palestine. 23 percent say they sympathize with both sides.

President Biden met with Pope Francis to discuss the war. Biden said that Israel has a right to defend itself, but he also says that we cannot ignore that humanity of innocent Palestinians that just want to live in peace. Air strikes continue and casualties are still rising as the conflict wages on in the Middle East.
