Culture is alive and well in North Omaha and Justin Marcey Yates is at the helm. Yates runs the Culxr House, a place in North Omaha where people can come to express their creativity in a safe, non-judgmental all-inclusive slace.
Yates’ role within the Culxr (Culture) House is to build and identify needs within his community but also within the community of artists, creative and entrepreneurs.
Yates said he hopes that this will bring about positive change within the community.
“It was not like this even 2 years ago, and I know that there is plans for more redevelopment” Yates said.
Yates said that the area expects to see a thorough revitalization through the next few years and that the best is yet to come. He emphasized that arts and entertainment will be at the forefront of the movement.
“This is just one piece of revitalization, there’s other components-you know what I mean. We’re kind of just taking a jumpstart with arts and entertainment,” Yates said.
