Mulhall’s, located at 120 and Maple streets, is widely known for its garden center.
While they do offer a wide variety of plants to their customers, the business also offers everything from landscaping to patio furniture. Recently, they added recycling to that list.
Mulhall’s new recycling bins, located in their south parking lot, allow Omaha residents to dispose of plastic, metal, paper and glass.
This drop-off site serves as a replacement for one that recently closed in Benson. One Omaha resident said this new location with its clearly labeled bins was a much-needed change.
“This is so much better because it became a dumping spot,” said one Omaha resident. “People were bringing every and anything that wasn’t recyclable.”
Because the bins are so large, the hope is that they will be able to fit more recyclable materials so that the site stays clean.
Mulhall’s employees are also playing a role in the upkeep of the area. One employee, Mike Reynolds, said making sure the bins don’t get too full is important.
“The glass one gets dumped probably once a week,” Reynolds said. “The other ones probably twice a week.”
Even though the program has only been around for about a month, Reynolds says it has already been a huge success.
“Sometimes I see lines out there of people using the recycling,” Reynolds said.
Mulhall’s is one of just five recycling drop-off centers around Omaha. To learn more about where you can deposit your recycling, you can visit wasteline.org.
