By: Juan Salazar OMAHA, Neb – After a three-year renovation, the Joslyn Art Museum has reopened its doors with a stunning 42,000-square-foot expansion that promises to revolutionize the way visitors experience art in Omaha. The Joslyn Art Museum has been a cultural hub in Omaha for more than 90 years, The museum recently underwent an expansion and has reopened for the first time since the summer of 2021. The newly added Rhonda & Hawks pavilion adds spaces for showcasing art as well as new spaces for visitors to gather.
As the Museum’s director of marketing and public relations, Amy Rummel, shares, “The expansion includes a whole new entrance sequence, a new main entrance, welcome desk, and them on the gallery level, there are ten new galleries, an outside terrace, an overlook area, and we also have a wonderful community room in this space as well.”
Visitor Experience Ambassador Fischer Andersen expresses his admiration for the museum’s architectural beauty “It makes you feel like you’re in a fancy movie- the fountain room, the balconies looking over, it’s just beautiful architecture all around and then beautiful art to compliment it”
The reimagined Joslyn works to establish its new identity, while honoring its original form. Inside the new pavilion, the architects used the same rose-colored marble. In addition to this, the new building was created to let more natural light into the museum.
Rummel emphasizes the museums mission to “bring people together to explore art across time and cultures.” This has been achieved though an addition of 100 new art pieces, from ancient, to modern times. With free admission, The Joslyn welcomes everyone, further cementing itself as an essential part of the Omaha community.
Visit Joslyn Art Museum, open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM, with extended hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays until 8 PM
