The man behind The Red Army, Rick Jeffiries

By Harrison Popp

Rick Jeffiries leads the premier fan organization, The Red Army, on the University of Nebraska-Omaha campus. It was created in 2002, but the thought was first conceived in 1997 when Rick attended a UNO hockey game at the Civic Auditorium. Rick added life and noise to the auditorium with a bucket he bought from Home Depot.

Maintaining the possibilities of Omaha Athletics is the backbone of The Red Army. The fan organization works hand-and-hand with the Maverick Maniacs, a student fan organization on campus. They have enjoyed relinquishing tradition onto the students. However, The Red Army takes great pride in guarding the spirit and tradition of the University.

Rick Jeffries is a season ticket holder to six different Omaha Maverick sports. He attends Omaha Women’s and Men’s basketball, soccer, as well as, volleyball and hockey.Rick can be seen at roughly 75 athletic events per academic year.He intends to add baseball and softball to the list upon the completion of the new complex near Baxter Arena.

Rick will miss a game or two every season due to this family. However, most games he brings a companion with him. You can follow Red Army on Twitter @RedArmyOmaha.
