Omaha hockey splits home series with Wisconsin

Omaha hockey was back at Baxter Arena as they played the Wisconsin Badgers. Omaha was ranked 20th coming in to the weekend. With this being one of the youngest teams in Maverick hockey history, head coach Mike Gabinet is putting his trust in these young players.

“They genuinely care about each other, and they genuinely care about the program, and they want us to see each other do well. You can tell a lot about a person when they’re celebrating somebody else’s success. You look around the locker room and you see guys cheering for each other, that’s special, and we got that with this group,” said Gabinet.

Game one ended in a 2-5 loss for Omaha, with goals coming from freshmen Brandon Scanlin and Noah Sullivan. Game two was a different story. The Mavericks came out firing on all four-cylinders. Omaha came out on top 5-2, with goals from Taylor Ward, Kevin Conley, Joey Abate, Martin Sundberg, and Josh Boyer. Omaha now has a record of 5-2-1.

The Mavs will hit the road to play Western Michigan, and then will be back at home November 22nd, to play a series against the Miami Ohio Redhawks.
