Dodge Ball Tournament Benefits Heart Disease And Stroke Prevention

Heart disease is the leading cause of death across the world, according to the American Heart Association, and stroke ranks second.

UNO and UNMC teamed up with the American Heart Association last Friday night for the third annual dodgeball tournament to benefit heart disease and stroke prevention. There was a $20 cost to participate and a $150 donation to sponsor a team. All proceeds went to the American Heart Association.

“The mission of the Dodgeball tournament was to get the most amount of people involved, because every single person is touched one way or another by heart disease and stroke,” Rachel Larson, Corporate Development Director of AHA said. “We want to bring awareness as well as prevention, because heart disease is 80% preventable.”

The AHA is the world’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. There are over 33 million volunteers and more than 3,400 employees in the organization.

Prizes were distributed to the winning team, along with the best team shirt, best dressed team, and the team with the most heart.

AHA has contributed over $4.5 billion in research, which is more than any non-profit organization in the United States.
