Instrument ‘that rocked the world’ comes to Omaha from NYC

If you love guitars, make your way to the Durham Museum. The “instrument that rocked the world” is on display now through April 25.

The exhibit takes visitors on a fascinating exploration of the sounds and pop culture behind what makes the guitar the world’s most popular instrument. Jessica Brummer, the director of communications at The Durham, said this exhibit has definitely attracted music lovers.

“The guitar is truly an instrument that not only attracts the older generation since its beginning, but the younger, and [talented] artists today are thriving off the guitar,” she said.

GUITAR shows visitors concepts such as electromagnetism, decibel levels, sound waves, frequency, and engineering design. There are many interactive kiosks and sound machines to play on and have fun with.

Visitors like Mallory Friberg and her daughter grew up around guitar players and believe it’s a great way to keep the little ones on their feet.

“My husband plays guitar,” Friberg said. “So we definitely know a little bit about how these guitars look, feel and sound.”

Visitors can also catch a glimpse of the largest playable air guitar, as showcased by the Guinness Book of World Records.

GUITAR is on display now through April 25 and open to all ages.
