Omaha, Neb. – Millard North High school has hosted its annual lawnmower clean-up. Staff and students helped the community to get ready for spring.

Skills USA is an organization for High School students to participate in competitions learning different tools of the trade such as welding, engineering, and baking.

At Millard North High School, Greg Dunn, the Skills USA instructor, puts on a service for the community to help them out with getting their mowers cleaned and teaches a few kids some new skills.

Dunn said they are helping the community.

“People need their lawnmower serviced, a lot of people don’t know how to or don’t have the tools to do it,” Dunn said.  “And so, people can bring their lawn mowers here we changed the oil, sharpen the blade, and power wash them for the people all for small charge that goes to our club.”

Now the students do majority of the work on the mowers as Greg Dunn said and learn different types of skills of the trade.

Skills USA participant Easton Weizorek says that Skills USA helps him grow and teaches him skills necessary for his personal and professional life.

“I really like to just work with my hands with anything, like I said anything mechanical I like to do working on engines run different parts like I’ve been working on different cars for while at my dad’s house now,” said Weizcorek.

Other students love helping the community and making sure that lawnmowers are done and ready for the spring.

Now the Skills USA lawn mower cleanup was only for one day, but it was a successful day as the money will go to transporting kids to state competitions, tools, and much more.

Over 100 lawnmowers were cleaned for the community during the event. Money raised at the event will go towards transporting students to the Skills USA state competition in Grand Island on April 7.
