Xbox and PlayStation’s Pre-Order Pandemonium

OMAHA – “I think it’s safe to say you know of your viewers, we’ll let you know when pre-order will happen. We will let you know. It’s not gonna happen with a minutes notice.”

Worldwide Marketing Director of Playstation, Eric Lempel had that to say when asked about when Playstation 5 pre-orders would go live. Unfortunately, Playstation fans would learn the hard way that sometimes representatives do not mean what they say.

At a moment’s notice retailers such as Gamestop, Target, and Walmart let loose online pre-orders without Sony’s go ahead. In this now infamous tweet, Walmart stated the following.

A bevy of disappointed fans attempted to secure their pre-orders but failed, due to high demand.

Gaming podcaster, and resident Xbox fan, Jake Williams lends his thoughts on the pre-order mayhem that ensued.

“I mean I’m not terribly surprised there was a debacle with preorders and everything going on. (From) what I saw Xbox handled it so much better than PlayStation did.”

The Omaha News independently investigated the matter, and was able to receive an Xbox Series X console pre-order from Walmart but failed to secure a PlayStation 5 pre-order from any of the major retailers.

Playstation die-hard Bailey McAlpine had an easier time finding a PS5 than most fans. Here’s his tips for nabbing one of the coveted pre-orders.

“Do your research and make sure that you have a backup plan, maybe two and just really pay attention to the times of their schedule to release and try to get there early.”

The Xbox Series X and Series S will be in stores on November 10, and the Playstation 5 will release two days later on November 12.
