Omaha drivers get ready for pothole season

Milder weather has returned, meaning potholes have returned. Some are small but others are filled with water, disguising the pothole within. Omaha drivers have seen it all.

Omaha residents Mark and Janine Emmons said their car suffered a flat tire earlier this week from a pothole, and they immediately contacted the mayor’s helpline.

“Within a few hours of contacting the city, the pothole was filled in and [I] got my tire fixed,” Janine said.

People may remember Jim Champion, known around Omaha as “The Auto Guy” from WOWT a few years ago. Champion said it is definitely pothole season.

“It’s the freeze and thaw cycle. When it gets cold at night, the roads crack, resulting in a small or large pothole,” he said.

Ronda Dolan from Omaha posted a picture of her flat tire on the Nextdoor app, leading to 80-some comments from other metro area residents. The comments informed others where major potholes were located.

Drivers are asked to contact the mayor’s hotline by emailing hotline@CityofOmaha.org to file a tire claim.

Furthermore, Mayor Jean Stothert tweeted on Feb. 24 that crews are filling potholes daily and everyone should be looking forward to putting pothole season behind us.
