The Omaha Men’s Soccer team fell 3-0 to #24 Oral Roberts in their final home match of the 2019 season. The match was also the last time that senior’s Seth Rinderknecht, Pep Mateu, Billy Hoffman, Ugo Tritz, Cole Nelson and Marcos Bautista stepped onto the pitch at Cangilia.

ORU scored twice in the opening half, with goals from Dante Brigida in the fifth minute and Reed Berry in the 22nd minute of play.

Omaha needed an adjustment, and according to captain and senior midfielder Cole Nelson, Coach Warming’s plan was to get his team to start playing like champions.

“It was just a gritty game, and we couldn’t get a whole lot going. But when we went into halftime, Coach just told us no matter what the result is, we need to play like a championship team. So that was the mindset we had throughout the second half.

The Maverick’ struggled offensively against the astute Golden Eagles’ defense, only registering one shot on goal throughout the 90 minutes. Junior forward Diego Gutierrez was the lone Maverick to test the opposition goalkeeper.

The Golden Eagle’s third goal came off a header in the 87th minute by Andrew Nunez.

Omaha’s final regular season matchup sees them hit the road on November 8 to take on the San Diego State Aztecs, followed by the Summit League Tournament in Denver the following week.
