OMAHA – There have been 24 deaths this year due to gun related homicide. In the month of September 2020, Omaha incident data shows that there have been four reported homicides in the Omaha community. That is equivalent to one homicide per week. There have been a total of fourth deaths in the last month.
Reporter Laryssa Leone spoke with community members who talked about why they believe we are seeing these numbers.
Community member Jack Bellig states that more law enforcement involvement may not be the best solution.
“If their life was better, they wouldn’t turn to that. And sometimes people get under so much pressure. They do things that they don’t want to do either. And just having more police presence and more cracking down appeal isn’t always the best answer,” said Bellig.
