New Baseball and Softball stadiums continue progress

OMAHA – Since the Baseball and Softball programs started up at UNO, both of those two teams had gone through a lot of stadiums. The Softball team played their games at the Westside High School softball field and the UNO baseball team found themselves playing in a lot of different stadiums.

But beginning in the Spring of 2021, that will change.

The UNO baseball and softball stadium, Tal Anderson Field and the Connie Claussen Field, are currently under construction and are expected to be ready by the Spring of 2021.

“We were realistically looking at the entire athletic department way back in 2009 and we worked on a master plan and really what our goal was that we wanted to find a way to bring all of our students back to campus. With athletics though, we get defined by wins and losses,” said Trev Alberts, the UNO Athletic Director.

The Tal Anderson Field and the Connie Claussen Field still continue to be under construction but are both expected to be ready by the Spring of 2021.

Two of those stadiums are also being named after two great legends of Omaha. Along with that came with private donations made for the construction team of Kiewit.

“Those are two giants in the athletic community and really when you’re trying to build a facility at the end of the day this is roughly a $23 million dollar project. All of the dollars that have come to be able to build this type of project are all private donations. No taxpayer support, no student fees, and no tuition revenue obviously,” said Alberts.

The Baseball and Softball team’s schedule will likely be released sometime from next month through January.
