Cedar Creek Coffee and Art is putting together a winter art show that will open in November.

They announced their winter-themed art show on Instagram, saying that anyone can submit art of any medium to be displayed and that the art does not need to fit the show’s theme. There is no submission fee, and artists get to set the price for their art, but the coffee shop does take a 20% commission.

Co-owner and permanent resident artist, Tyra Kaplan wants to make sure that artists of all levels feel comfortable submitting art to their shop.

“I think we want it to be accessible for artists that are just starting to get into the art field,” said Kaplan. “Artists that also don’t have as much experience are always welcome here.”

Artists had until October 23rd to submit their art to have it displayed, but they still show art outside of their art show dates. One way they do this is through their hand-made mugs.

Kaplan is one of the artists who makes their mugs, but she also reaches out to other artists to see if they are interested.

“I make only some of them,” said Kaplan. “The other mugs that we have are artists that I’ve either encountered or follow them on social media, and I reach out and order mugs from them that way.”

Another artist who displays their art in the form of mugs at Cedar Creek is Megan Adamek. Adamek has been making mugs for years and loves having their art used in a coffee shop, as that’s where they feel they get the most support.

“I always thought like to make it as an artist, quote on quote, like you had to get into like galleries or kind of like be in this very prestigious place to like get ahead,” said Adamek. “But honestly, it’s just like everyday people that are supporting, you know, artists at coffee shops.”

Cedar Creek Coffee and Art’s goal is to make submitting art accessible for everyone. Being able to decorate their shop is a bonus, but what they want to do is help artists experience having their art on display.

The art show starts on November 6th and will run until January 15th.
